Fill my cup to the brim.

For a long time I resisted to write my thoughts in English. Well, that's not my first language so I was not not confident with the idea.  But now writing, my hope is that you enjoy the blog and feel free to help me to build my knowledge in that language.

Today, it was holiday here, so I got the morning to read the Bible. Reading the Psalm 23, when on verse 5, a picture came in to my thoughts: when preparing a party, like birthday party, we start to fill the glasses with juice or soda and we try to manage to not end up the drinks so fast. So we do not fill the cups, but we also do not let the measure be close to the middle of the cups because we desire not to seem a miser or an unprepared person. And, for sure, we do not want to make our guests uncomfortable or make them feel undesired in our party offering them a empty cup.

For that, some brides lose their peace trying to find out what is the best buffet and how many people they will be able to pay for. That information will bring a deep impact on the guests list, because no one expects to be ashamed during such special moment like a wedding party. So, the bride wants to be sure that everybody will eat, drink and have fun enough to feel honoured with that invitation.

On that context, I understood how deep is that figure of "fill a cup to the brim". Now, for me, it means such profound joy and honour expressed for that guest that the inviter has no measure to please him or her. All the wine, food or everything else is on disposition to that guest and he or she will have as much as they desire, because the host's pleasure is to bless the guest.

How beautiful is that picture for us. Before on verse 4, we face a path of darkness, unsettled and of discipline, but after all we will find honour on our shepherd's table. And the joy will fill our hearts as our cup is filled to the brim by our Lord.
